Here's your Sunday jigsaw: Golfside Restaurant
At first, I was convinced this restaurant was across from the golf course pond on Route 10 in Hanover, where the old driving range tee used to be.
But after digging further, I found a Golfside Restaurant ad in the March 1959 issue of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine placing it at the current location of the 45 Lyme Road office building, next to the now-closed “Little” Co-op (a former gas station). In 1976, the Montshire Museum began there.
In the first photo, you can see the trails of Oak Hill at Storrs Pond, then Dartmouth’s main ski area. The third photo shows a poster for the former Starlite Drive-In at 53 Route 10 in Orford, which opened June 1, 1952. The likely “Woodie” and Chevrolet Fleetline parked outside help confirm the early Fifties date. The last photo shows the interior, with owner “Mrs. Robt. Whitney” on the left.
